Castelli Alpha Doppio RoS Jacket

The Castelli Alpha Doppio Rain or Shine Jacket is for the hard-core cyclist who will not hang up his bike despite frigid winter temperatures and snow. The high-performance cycling jacket keeps you warm and dry when riding a bike in cold weather; yet the Castelli winter cycling jacket provides protection in a wide range of temperatures. On fast rides or when it warms to above freezing, you may need extra ventilation. A double-layer construction allows you to open the outer wind-protection layer while staying warm with the insulating layer. By opening the outer layer, air circulate over the insulating layer, so you have just enough air to keep you comfortable without allowing cold air chilling directly against the skin. This is a great feature when riding a bike up a long climb; you can open outer layer for fresh air and then close it on the descent with the easy sliding YKK® Vislon® zipper that is also water resistant. The Polartec® Alpha Direct insulating layer is the next generation of insular winter fabric—it’s softer and warmer. Castelli has made more changes to improve one of its top winter jackets. The neck is high and shaped to fit a cyclist in every position. A stretch layer at the waist is made with a silicone bead that lies flat and completely seals out wind without creasing or exposing your body. The jacket stays in place. The double-layer wrist opening now has an inner layer that stays under a winter glove. Wet weather protection is designed into every part of the jacket. The GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® fabric has waterproof seam taping on exposed seams around the shoulder. Other seams are hidden, and the water-repellent fabric treatment keeps out most of the moisture. Castelli calls the Alpha Doppio Rain or Shine Jacket “essentially waterproof.” They had to find the right balance between water protection, breathability, and comfort. In essence, this doesn’t mean no drop will ever get through the jacket, but Castelli tested the jacket on long rides in real rain and the testers stayed dry.
