Castelli Alpha ROS Jacket
Description
The technologically advanced materials in the Castelli Alpha Rain or Shine (ROS) Jacket allow a committed cyclist to train in any kind of weather. Cycling clothing used to be classified into dry-weather clothing and separate wet-weather clothing. If dry weather clothing were used in the rain, it would soak up rain drops and conversely the wet-weather clothing kept the rain off but was so baggy and uncomfortable that you’d never dream of wearing it in dry conditions. Ninety percent of cycling garments are used in dry weather. When designing the Alpha ROS jacket, Castelli didn’t compromise on comfort or breathability. They avoided overbuilding the jacket so that lightness and breathability are maintained. The Gore® Windstopper® 150 LRR seals out the cold weather while allowing complete breathability so a cyclist doesn’t overheat when the ride intensifies. The 150 LLR is Gore’s lightest three layer knit fabric. Besides windproofness and excellent breathability, the fabric has a functional stretch and DWR coating for water repellency. This means a jacket that is aerodynamic and waterproof. The outside layer that keeps wind and water away is separated by the base layer which insulates. To increase waterproofness, seals are sealed and the zippers are covered and waterproof. Castelli designs race clothing and they wanted to keep the ROS race ready so they used a stretchy fabric that fits a wide range of body types. To further ensure the ROS gave the racers that extra edge, they used a raw-edge waist and cuffs that lie flat to keep the jacket in place. This race jacket keeps a rider warm and dry in subfreezing weather while features such as a ventilating back will keep the jacket from overheating.
