The same concept engineers use to design air planes was used to create the Castelli Body Paint 3.3 Long Sleeve Speed Suit – the most aerodynamic cycling suit used in the fastest races in the world. Castelli used two layers to create a smooth surface for airflow. Tested in the wind tunnel, the Body Paint Speed Suit saved 3-4 watts against the fastest speed suit on the market. The suit fits close to skin and is ideal for rides and races where time counts. Ventilating mesh panels have been added at the back and upper arms so a cyclist doesn’t overheat as he rides against the clock. The nearly zero seam design adds to the aerodynamics and to the comfort. To increase the advantage, Castelli created a flat back with no pockets, just a smooth surface to attach a race number. The long sleeves have a loop at the end that can be circled around the thumb to create a perfect zone for air flow. For comfort at the race level, Castelli added the Progetto X2 Air seat pad. The four way stretch of the seamless breathable skin surface area doesn’t crease, stays dry and feels very soft against the seat area. The padding is added in varying thicknesses to provide the ideal cushioning without being unnecessarily bulky. Perforated viscous padding has been added to the highly sensitive ischial and perineum pressure areas. The Progetto X2 is Castelli’s race seat pad—it protects in the right areas but doesn’t interfere with the pedal stroke of a racer leaned forward and riding all out.
