Wear the Castelli BTW Speed Suit when you are pushing the limits. Pushing the aircraft to the limits was the phrase military test pilots coined in the 1960s. Throttle levers with the knobs or balls at the top were pushed all the way forward against the cockpit wall: Ball to the Wall (BTW). The Castelli BTW Speed Suit is for those days where you never drop out of your 53 x 11 or 12. The power is pushed into pedals, a do or die effort. The BTW is when you make a commitment to never giving up until you cross the finish line. Castelli made a speed suit for those cyclists who spend countless hours training for maximum speed and power. Castelli used the most advanced sports clothing research to construct a fast speed suit; CFD analysis, 3D tests on mannequins, fabric research and testing, multiple wind tunnel tests, and then testing in the World Tour with top Castelli sponsored pro bike racers. While the focus was speed, Castelli knew that comfort was directly related to speed, so they used fully breathable, fully stretchy fabrics that are close-fitting. A little more Lycra® has been added for a close fit, so you won’t stay as dry as in endurance bib-shorts, but once again the focus in the BTW Speed Suit is speed. The shoulder fabric is slightly heavier to make it smoother for air flow and that much more aerodynamic. It doesn’t have the Sanremo front opening so pee-stops will take a little more effort, yet when you are racing, you will have a faster speed suit. You have a three percent total aero drag savings when compared to the fastest Sanremo Speed Suit. That three percent is earned in the 28 to 40 mph (45 to 65 km/h) range. Once again, the BTW is for fast races and fast racers. The Progetto X² Air seamless is Castelli’s top-of-the-line seat pad used in the bib-shorts used by Castelli’s pro racers as they compete at the biggest stage races. The Progetto X² protects your skin while designed to fit the anatomy of a male cyclist in the riding position so he has just the right amount of padding while never compromising performance. This is a lean seat pad made to provide comfort for riding fast in short and long races. The layer closest to skin has a four-way stretch that conforms to the shape of the seat area. The microfiber offers the most softness. Seamless construction and a perforated foam backing that allows airflow to keep you dry add to the features of the skin layer ensuring you are guaranteed high intensity and long-distance comfort. The padding which constitutes the second layer of the seat pad varies in thickness. It is thicker under the sit bones and thinner on the sides and under the perineum. This design protects a cyclist in the riding position without creating too much bulk. The focus is to create a fast suit. For extra padding on those century plus distances, the perforated viscous padding added under the highly sensitive ischial and perineum pressure areas protects without getting in the way of a pedal stroke.
