With the eighth fastest time in the history of the Ironman World Championships, Fred Van Lierde won the 2013 Ironman World Championships. From start to finish Van Lierde raced in the Ironman world championship wearing the Castelli Free Tri ITU Suit. The Castelli Free Tri ITU Suit is compatible with the rules of the International Triathlon Union and ideal for 70.3 mile distance races. The sleeveless construction allowed Van Lierde to take on the swim without a wetsuit. The fabric absorbed very little water so the champion triathlete streamed through the water like one of the dolphins that swam amongst the triathletes on the swim portion of the race. Since he didn’t have to change clothing gear, Van Lierde gained time against those who had to change apparel. Every piece of the Free Tri Suit supports aerodynamics. The entire suit fits very close to body and the pockets are also designed to not bounce around when loaded with energy foods. The KISS Tri seat pad is thin enough to be unnoticeable on the run, yet there is enough padding to be comfortable on 100+ km bike rides. The aerodynamic fabrics are also very breathable so a triathlete stays dry and cool and therefore comfortable on the run. On the run leg at the Ironman World Championships, Van Lierde overtook the competitors in front of him to then become the World Ironman Champion which he did with the support of Castelli’s Tree Tri ITU Suit.
