The Team Sky Sanremo 3.2 Speed Suit is what Team Sky racers compete in when at their one-day very fast races and flat stages of the big races such as the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia. The original Sanremo Suit took John Vansummeren across the 2011 Paris-Roubaix 19 seconds in front of the second place finisher. Vansummeren broke away with three other racers 15 miles from the finish at this flat, brutally hard classic. Vansummeren won despite having punctured a tire 5 km from the finish. Since 2011, Castelli has found ways to further perfect this skinsuit for road racing. The front panels are now made of 98% polyester fabric that stays drier and the added bit of surface texture makes it even faster in the wind tunnel. The original speed and fit derives from the skinsuit construction of three-quarters of the circumference around the waist. In order to make it road racing and training compatible, Castelli added an overlapping front that makes it easy to open up for hot climbs and easy to take a quick pee stop. Three rear pockets were added so the rider can carry the extra needed food required for long/hard rides and races. The Progetto X2 Air Seat Pad is Castelli’s pro level padding designed to maintain comfort while not compromising a racer’s aerodynamic position on the bike. The heaviest padding has been placed under the ischial and perineum areas that receive the most pressure from body weight. The padding them minimizes so the racer has no padding interferences when he is leaned over the seat and riding at full intensity. The skin layer surface is soft, seamless and o so no infection sets in. The air that flows over the surfaces aids in keeping the area dry, clean and comfortable. Big racers have won in the Team Sky Sanremo 3.2. The list is long and prestigious. A few of the big names include Chris Froome, the four time Tour de France winner, Geraint Thomas, a stage winner at the Paris-Nice, Mikel Landa podium finisher at the Giro d’Italia, and Michal Kwiatkowski, world road champion.
