The Castelli Free Aero Race Bib Short Kit Version is worth the money if you ride a lot with the intention of getting fast. The variety of fabrics sewn together with flat lock stitching provides a superbly comfortable race jersey for hot weather. The Free Aero Race fits close and doesn’t snag on the seat thanks to the Forza fabric on the inner legs that feels smooth and stays dry. The close fit is also achieved with side panels made of stretchy Energia Micro that circulates air to keep you from overheating. On the front of the legs the Vortex dimpled fabric provides a smooth surface for airflow and the area of contact with the seat is made with the hardier Action Micro Fabric that doesn’t wear down despite constant abrasion with the seat. The Free Aero Race Bib Short will stay in top form through multiple long mileage seasons. Besides adding extra breathable fabric to keep you cool, Castelli created the Doppio V construction that provides a more open front between the bibs. This wider area is convenient when it’s hot and you need more air to keep you from overheating. The bibs themselves lie flat and are barely noticeable while the GiroAir mesh-like leg elastic is wide so it spreads out the pressure to keep the shorts in place without nipping the skin. Castelli designed their Progetto X2 Air Seat Pad with the intention of creating the most comfortable seat pad for the racer. Air flows right through the layer closest to the skin which is soft and it adapts to the shape of your body against the saddle. The padding is of varying thicknesses in different parts of the chamois so that you get the right amount of protection in the right places. Extra perforated viscous padding is added into the areas that receive the most pressure so you don’t get those unwanted saddle sores on long rides.
