More than two hundred years have passed since the creation of the first bicycle. People used the new invention as a form of transportation. People devised a combination of the right clothing to protect themsleves from the wind and rain while not restricting their movement. Several decades later, the first race was a 1,200 meter race held in Paris. For racing, cycling clothing had to be aerodynamic and comfortable, so professional designers began to design clothing for this specific purpose. Castelli formed not too long after that first race in 1868. The popularity of cycling was growing fast so Castelli moved forward and designed race clothing for the cycling stars at the beginning of the 20th century. When women appeared on the racing scene, Castelli designers studied how their bodies move on the bike so this Italian company became one of the first to specialize in woman specific cycling apparel. The Castelli GABBA 2 Women’s Jacket is cut to fit the shape of a woman’s body when in the riding position. The collar, the waist and the cuffs are designed to keep out cool wind and light rain. Even the YKK® zipper has a wind flap. The storm flap at the rear blocks out wind spray. The Gore® Windstopper® X-Lite Plus fabric blocks wind and the water-repellent finish causes rain drops to bounce off the jacket. Castelli designed the Gabba 2 Women’s Cycling Jacket for the racer so it is lightweight and breathable. Body heat and sweat evaporate but wind and rain are kept out. Nano Flex fabric has been added under arms to increase ventilation and keep a woman cyclist dry in one of the areas that sweat the most.
