The Smith Overtake Bike Helmet advances innovative helmet technology to provide a highly protective helmet that is lightweight, aerodynamic and with cooling ventilation that maximizes performance and comfort. The Overtake is best known for its combination of traditional EPS foam with the new Koroyd Honeycomb which absorbs 30% more energy upon impact when compared to the international standard. What this means is that the Overtake provides you with more protection but with less weight. Smith combines more Koroyd and less EPS into the protective frame, resulting in a lighter and more aerodynamic helmet. A large Overtake weighs only 295 grams. Smith, the manufacturer, states that “20 mm of Koroyd passes testing the same as 25 mm of EPS. The No. 1 rule in aerodynamics is smaller is better. Smaller cars are faster. Smaller helmets are faster.” Proper ventilation that ensures comfort and helps your head stay cool is also designed into the Smith road helmet. AEROCORE construction through the Koroyd material allows more vents to be placed throughout the helmet without compromising protection on impact. The four biggest vents on the helmet are far bigger than any vents on a traditional road helmet. All the vents are forward facing so air flows over the head. The Koroyd fills the vents so air can circulate but heavy wind gusts and objects will be kept at bay. The Koroyd also allows heat to escape so cool comes in and the heat evaporates. In regards to fit, the VaporFit Adjustable Fit System allows the rider to tighten the entire ring that surrounds the head. The cyclist can also adjust the plastic cage that surrounds the back of the neck in three different height options. Well positioned pads that do a great job of absorbing sweat ensure that a rider stays comfortable on rides when the temperatures peak out at the height of the day. Comfort is further boosted by the recessed anchors for the straps and multiple anchor positions for the retention system. Sunglass arms can sit in a groove that Smith designed into the sides of the helmet just so the Smith Optics sunglasses stay in place and won’t rub the skin.
