Castelli Vela Vest

The Castelli Vela Vest is an indestructible, short sleeve cycling vest for the racer who needs protection from strong winds and light rain. On the front, the area that faces the most wind, Castelli uses Dyneema®, an incredibly lightweight, heavy-duty fabric that is also used in the sails of race boats and in rock climbing ropes. The fabric’s close weave provides a shield against wind. The shield that is strong enough for a sail provides maximum amount of wind protection for a cyclist who is descending a mountain or riding in strong winds. Despite its strength, the fabric is nearly weightless. Riding in the Vela Vest as a second layer adds a mere 65 grams of weight onto your body; 65 grams is next-to-nothing. Castelli knows an athlete needs a vest that allows his body to breathe, so the cycling company added stretch woven inserts for breathability. They then coated the vest with a water repellent DWR which provides the final feature for total wind and significant water protection in a vest you can store in your back jersey pocket.
